Homeward Bound

We woke up this morning to fog.  A little disappointing for Grace as there wasn't much of a sunrise. At 7:30 we started loading the car.  It was pretty full but we managed to get everything in.   We headed off for our last breakfast at the Sea Captains House Restaurant.  We got our favourite waitress Michelle who was always very bubbly.  We had recognized her from previous years and this year we got to know her a lot better.  We even got a hug from her before leaving.  We were taking a picture in front of the sign and Michelle came running out with Ralph's water bottle.  We took a shot with Michelle and the group, got another hug and off we went.   First stop was Starbucks and we were on our way home.   We plan on travelling to Morgantown, West Virginia.  We arrived around 6:40 and went for dinner at Applebee's.  When we got back to our room we watched the Greatest Showman.

Reflections

Today we played the International Golf Course.  This course was a little shorter for the ladies which made it a bit easier to play.  I actually made it on the green a few times in regulation which felt good.  This course had lots of water on it so it was nice to capture the reflection of the bridges, trees and houses in the pictures.   It was kind of sad to put the clubs in the car knowing this was our last round of golf.  The weather has been fantastic all week.  We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

After golf we went to Huntington Beach State Park.  Marian and Harry were kind enough to loan us their pass which got us in for free.  We were not disappointed.  There were alligators on both sides of the road and tons of storks this time.  We even saw another spoonbill.  We were there just on time because the tide started to come in and when the waters started to rise the birds started leaving.

We thought we would have an early dinner tonight so we could go back to the hotel and start packing.  We went to Burgerfi.  They had very tasty hamburgers which worked out nice.

When we got home we got a load of wash on the go and then decided to go for one last swim in the ocean (for some of us it was a first time in the ocean).  We didn't even make it in the pool or hot tub this year.  The ocean was very warm.  It felt good to get all that sweat off our bodies.

Now it's ime to pack and celebrate our final competition which we played all week called protect your ball.  Ralph scored the most points and is the winner.  Congratulations Ralph.

Farmstead -This time we got it right.

Today we went back to Farmstead and were booked properly this time.  The course was beautiful but it was very easy to lose balls if you weren't on the fairway.  Your ball would just sink in the grass.  You could walk by it several times without seeing it.  If you could stay in the fairway it helped to keep your score on track.  We all played better this round.  Not a lot of wild life on the course but we did see a heron catch a fish.  That was pretty neat.  The temperature rose to 35.  You needed to make sure you stayed hydrated.  You could feel the sweat roll down your body.   Here you were not allowed to eat your own lunch on the premises so we enjoyed a drink and ate our lunch on the way home.

When we got home the guys decided to enjoy a swim in the ocean.  I was going to have a short nap but decided to try and take some photos from the balcony.  Grace went with them but did not have a swim.  She took pictures from the shoreline.  The guys said the water was really warm.

Tonight we went to one of our favourite restaurants called the Wicked Tuna.  We enjoyed a delicious meal and then headed home to relax.

Our game for the day was Pick A Card.  We need to pick two 2 black cards and 2 red cards which represent 2
holes from the front nine and two holes from the back nine.  Add these scores together and the lowest score wins.  Lawrence was the winner of this round.

Oops - We went to the wrong course.

We were up at the usual time, had breakfast and drove off to Farmstead.  When we tried to check in we were told we were booked for tomorrow.  We found out we were booked at Sea Trail Jones Course today.  This course was about 1/2 an hour away from our destination.  We at first thought this was an error from the Carribean but when we checked further we discovered it was an error on us and we didn't pick up on the change of courses made.  Oh well, all was good.

The last few courses we played the greens were very fast.  This course was the complete opposite.  Was hard to adjust to the new speed.  Shot a bit better today but still not great.

The competition for today was called Ralph's game.  The scorecards get numbered 1 to 4 and then 4 balls with numbers 1 to 4 will get drawn.  We will all draw a ball and whoever gets the card with the least amount of points is the winner.  I was lucky enough to draw Ralph's number which made me a winner.  Woohoo.

We finally saw some alligators for the first time.  It was funny because we were watching a big one float around the water and there was a little one close by.  As we were pointing to the small alligator Grace thought we were pointing to one on land.  None of us saw that one but Grace was able to get a picture of it.

For dinner we went to the Gulfstream Cafe.  We got a table outdoors and then enjoyed the early bird special as we didn't want to go to bed late.  The portions were supposed to be smaller but there definitely was a lot of food there.  The shecrab soup was delicious as well as the whole meal.  We stuck around and took some sunset pictures.  Went home stuffed.

Barefoot Dye Course

Today was another exciting day at the golf course.  We played another course at Barefoot, the Dye Course.  It was another hot and humid day.  I was struggling with hitting the ground first and walked away with a sore back.  In the humidity you learned that you needed to hit a lower number club to get the distance you need.  Scored the same as yesterday (which wasn't good) but still had fun.  The course was not easy.

The competition for today was played by each person drawing a club the night before.  Ralph and I drew a 5 wood and Grace and Lavwrence drew a 5 Hybrid.

We played the 14th hole and soon discovered it was not easy to putt with these clubs.  The competition was really close but Ralph ended up beating us by 1 stroke.  After our game, we had a hard time finding a place to sit down and eat some lunch.  We almost circled the whole building.  Finally found it and had an enjoyable time.

We came  home to enjoy a happy hour and found out they cancelled the golf evening due to lack of golfers.  We have noticed a real reduction in people especially for breakfast at the Sea Captains place.  This changes our dinner plans as we usually got pizza at these events.

Because they cancelled the golf night the Carribean gave us some free tickets for free beer.  The guys enjoyed a few beers and then we went to Carolina's Seafood and Steakhouse.  We would not mark this restaurant as a favourite but at least we can say we have been there.

This was the hole I finally got on the green in one shot.

The Dunes Golf and Beach Club

Today we golfed at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.  The weather was very hot and humid.  Usually around this time of year we start in layers but that was not needed at all.  I an thankful we have another game tomorrow as I did not hit very well at all today.  The course was beautiful and challenging.  We enjoyed seeing a bunch of storks in the water.  We saw signs everywhere to beware of alligators but didn't see any.

After golf we picked up some groceries to make Nasi for supper.  We added celery and cabbage which I normally don't do.  It turned out very tasty.  I can honestly say I have enjoyed the meals we have made ourselves very much.

This evening we went to the Alabama Theatre and saw One.  We thoroughly enjoyed the show and it was neat that they gave thanks to God and sang How Great Thou Art as well.

Tomorrow is going to be another hot day and we look forward to a round at The Barefoot Dye course.
