Today was supposed to be a bit cooler so we dressed appropriately and headed off to First Awakenings for breakfast in Salinas. The breakfast at Comfort Inn wasn't the best so we decided to go out instead. After breakfast we drove along Highway 1 which followed the coastline. The scenery was just awesome. Our first stop was Point Lobos State Park. We were hoping to find some tide pools to check out but this year they were not loaded with animals. We enjoyed the waves crashing along the rocks and even saw a whirlpool form while going over some rocks. Lawrence found some crabs in the pools and some green and purple anemone. While taking a break to look out over the ocean we sited our first whales. Unfortunately they were way out in the distance and it was difficult to get a good picture of them. We decided to head down to Pfeiffer Beach National Park and we stopped along the way to take some pictures of the Bixby Bridge and some of the views we were seeing. You just stand in awe looking at the views. The day was passing too quickly so we decided to grab some lunch at the River Inn by Big Sur. We finally arrived at Pfeiffer Beach. The roads were pretty scary as there was not much room for 2 cars to be side by side. It was approximately 2 miles in to get to the water. There was a hole in the rocks where a lot of people come to take pictures. Those who have the proper equipment and the right time of day can get colours to shine through the rock. Afterwards we headed off to Monterey and checked out where our next Hotel we were staying at would be. We are very close to the golf course which is nice as we will be golfing on Thursday. Looking forward to it. We are also fairly close to the water which is really nice.
The water seemed to form a whirlpool effect |
As close to a fan as I could get
