A day of rest

This morning Lawrence and I slept till around 6:30.  I had Grace show me how to change some settings on my camera because it was blocking me from taking pictures.  I  managed to capture a few sunrise pictures and then enjoyed a morning cup of coffee.  Grace and Ralph were up early and went to the beach to take some sunrise pictures.

Today we went to church and met up with John and Helen VanDyk.  We knew they were coming so we were keeping our eyes open to find them.  They found us first.  On the way home from church we stopped by the Dunes course to get a score card and course book.

The afternoon for us was spent in a lounge chair reading a bit and relaxing.  Grace went shell collecting and collected 3 bags full.  Ralph did a hike to the Pier and back.

Dinner is cooking while I type this blog and it smells delicious here.  We are having smashed garlic potatoes, baked cauliflower and Chateau Briand cooked by Grace and Ralph.  Yummy

Afterwards we went to take some sunset pictures and we watched a movie called Adrift.

Let the games begin

The alarm went off at 6:00 am.  There was a crew working on the beach all night and were rather noisy so we had a bit of a restless sleep.   I got up and looked out over the balcony to see lightning lighting up the sky.  Hmmm, wonder if we will golf today.  We went next door for breakfast and found out that George (who used to make our Omelettes) passed away.  Also Chicago (our other Omelette maker) retired.  We noticed a few changes but the Omelettes were still good.  While eating breakfast the storm passed by us so we headed off to Beachwood Golf course and played our first round.

Today we started our weekly challenge where each person needs to play a game ball for 1 par 3, 1 par 4 and 1 par 5 per 9.  One point is awarded for getting on in regulation for a par 5, 2 points for a par 4 and 3 points for a par 3.  The only one who scored any points today was Ralph with a total of 4.  Sure enough I got stuck in the woods with my game ball.  In one shot my club went completely out of my hands and went farther than my ball. Argh...maybe Monday will be better.  There was a very gentle mist of rain once in a while but nothing to pull you off the course.  Was very refreshing as it was quite humid out.  Managed to get all 18 holes done.

After golf we were sitting in the condo listening to a thunderstorm while we decided where to go for dinner.  It has gotten quite foggy.  We decided on an easy night and went to California Ultimate Pizza.   They even made pizza with a gluten free crust.  Tonight we relaxed and watched Ocean's Eight together.

We have arrived.

We were up around 7:30.  We packed up our room and shared a devotion together which Grace brought from a travellers devotion bible.  It really helped us focus on being friendly to those around us.  We were on the road around 9.  The drive was relatively smooth until we got closer to Myrtle Beach.  Then we ended up taking a few detours due to closed roads being flooded which added approximately 30 minutes to our drive.  We arrived at our hotel at 1:00 and were lucky enough to get our room right away.  We did notice along the way that the roads were not as busy as they usually are.

We quickly unloaded the car and put things in our room and then headed off to our favourite Grilled Cheese place. So yummy.  We sat outside and enjoyed some 35 degree Celsius weather.

After lunch we drove to the Fresh Market to pick up some Chateau Briand for our Sunday meal.  We headed back home to unpack our suitcases and enjoy some time on the balcony looking out over the water.

We picked up a few more groceries and then went to Carolina Ale House for dinner.  We enjoyed some delicious salads and then headed home to plan for our first round of golf.  Tomorrow we play Beachwood.

This picture shows the flooding on the side of the road.

I enjoyed the grilled fried shrimp and cheese.

10 Years and Counting

The day has finally arrived and it is time to head to Myrtle Beach.  It has been a busy couple of weeks and we are certainly ready for a vacation.  We loaded up most of the truck on Thursday night and enjoyed a quick drink with Grace and Ralph.  They surprised us with new hats to commemorate 10 years of going to Myrtle Beach together.  We went to bed at 11:30 pm and were up at 4:00 to finalize our last bit of packing and have a quick shower.  We picked up Grace and Ralph and were on the road by 5:00 am.  First stop was a coffee at Starbucks in Burlington.  We arrived just as they opened.  Next stop was the border.  We drove up to the gate with no one in front of us.  We hardly had any questions asked and off we went.  I dozed a bit in the car after little sleep.  The drive was very smooth.  We had rain through all of West Virginia and Virginia and the beginning of North Carolina.  We stopped at Total Wines in Winston Salem and were able to find the wine we enjoyed (J Lohr White Reisling 2016) when we went to California.  We continued on to Asheboro where we will stay for the night and saw a gorgeous rainbow.  It was even a double rainbow.  We arrived around 6:15 pm.  We unloaded a few items in our room and made plans for dinner.  We ended up going across the street to Kickback Jacks.  Grace noticed the sign saying Crafts.  She got all excited that they would have crafts only to find out it was craft beer.  Dinner was good and now we are relaxing in our room before turning in.  Tomorrow we have approximately 3 1/2 hours to get to our hotel.  Hoping we don't have any issues with flooding on the roads.
