The Beach or Golfing

Woke up to a sunrise this morning. The sky was not super red but nice to see still. What a choice to make. Do we go golfing or go to the beach? We started the morning with a free round of golf lessons. I learned my grip was completely wrong. Something I will have to work on. Golfing was the decision made so we played where Ralph won the free golf lessons. Possum Trot. The course was not as nice as the others we played and not in very good condition but it was still fun to play. If you got a par on hole 11 you could get a free beer. Ralph got a par on that hole.

We went home and had a shower and than headed to an Octoberfest celebration. It was nothing like the celebrations we have at home. A little disappointing. We went to California Dreaming for dinner and enjoyed a drink at the hotel before heading to bed. Tomorrow we head towards home again.

Leopard's Chase

One last morning up at 5:30 again.  Who would have thought I could do it.  Must admit though, I am struggling to stay up past 10:00 o'clock these days.  We ate breakfast and headed back to North Carolina to play Leopard's Chase.  This course was beautiful and challenging.  I would rate it as close to one of my favourites so far.  Very scenic, although this was the first course we did not see an alligator.  We did see a lot of Blue Herons.  After our game we enjoyed our lunch at Tiger's Eye and than headed home for some relaxation.  We enjoyed listening to the waves come in while sitting on the balcony.  The weather turned very windy in the afternoon and waves were quite high.  For dinner we went to the Gulfstream Cafe and had some deliciouse She-Crab Soup.  We also enjoyed some grouper and shrimp.  Once we arrived home we had our final competition.  Tonights competition was who had the lowest score on holes 5, 7 and 14.  Ralph is today's winner.

Lion's Paw

Today is our fourth round of golf.  We enjoyed the morning at Lion's Paw and we played a second round in the afternoon at Tiger's Eye again.  Lion's Paw was a very scenic course.  I would be much happier with my playing if I could straighten out my chips and get on the green in one shot.  We decided to play a second round today and see if we can manage playing 2 rounds in a day.  For Grace it helped her out as she played her best game ever.  My feet were killing me by the end of the second game but it was a lot of fun.  In the evening we went to Martin's where they had a golf night and raffled off some prizes and had a putting competition.  Grace made it to the last round and then missed her putt.  The rest of us didn't fare as well.  For dinner we went back to Gordon Biersch but we didn't enjoy it as much.  We are now enjoying a drink and getting ready to do our competition draw.  Tonight it was Teresa's turn to win as she received the most amount of Pars on the back nine..

Pawley's Plantation

Another early morning.  The alarm went off at 5:30 and we got ready for golf and were at the restaurant by 6:00 for breakfast.  (Can you believe I have gone almost a whole week of waking up at 5:30?)  Today was not our best game however this course is quite unique and we enjoyed playing it.  Grace had gotten a blister on her foot and ended up golfing the last few holes with one shoe on and one shoe off.  We had a fun time regardless of our score.  Afterwards we decided to spend some time around the pool.  By the time we were home and ready to go to the pool we did not have as much time as we had hoped.  We enjoyed a short hot tub and than got ready for the hotel golf social of drinks and snacks.  Ralph was the lucky one tonight. He won a round of 1/2 hour golf lessons for 6 people at the golf social.  This was from Possum Trot Golf Course.  We are hoping to use this on Saturday.  We ordered a pizza this evening for dinner and are relaxing in our room tonight.   We had our random draw for our mini competition today.  Grace was the winner.  The round was for the best putts on 4 holes.  We had a 3 way tie of Grace, Lawrence and Teresa.  The tie breaker was to add the total score of the holes picked and Grace was the winner.  Looking forward to going to the Cats again and golfing Lion's Paw tomorrow.  We have been enjoying each others fellowship immensely and hope to continue making this an annual event.

Lessons in Sea Salt Making

Grace had come up with a plan to make sea salt this vacation.  She says, it's so easy.  All we need to do is collect some salt water from the ocean and boil it until it turns into salt.  Well, first of all we needed a container to bring the ocean water to our room.  The guys ordered some beer in 1/2 gallon jug bottles.  We used these (after they had been emptied) to bring water back to our room.  Grace and I went to the ocean in the dark and had to pass the waves digging up all the sand.  First try we were successful, however as we entered the water we were thinking of the sharks people were catchng while fishing and the jellyfish we have seen on the beach before.  We screwed the lids tight and then put them in the knapsack and headed to the hot tub and then back to the room.  Next step was to pour the water into a pan but filter it through a cheese cloth to catch any extras from the ocean not needed.  It took about 4 hours to boil the water.  We were surprised at the amount of salt we were able to get from the first batch.  We were so excited about the first batch that Grace and I went down a second time to get some more water.  We went in the afternoon this time.  The waves were quite high this time and it is a good thing we had our bathing suits on as we got completely wet.  We are now ready for our second batch.

Panther's Run

Another early  morning.  We were up by 5:30 and ready for breakfast at 6:00.  We headed off to the golf course and we were able to hit a few balls before playing our game.  We were one of the first to tee-off which was nice as we did not have to wait at each hole and didn't have anyone waiting behind us as well.  Some of us shot a better game yesterday than today but we still had fun.  After golf we drove to Leopard's Chase so we knew how to get their on Friday.  We found out that if you play a round of golf they will arrange to book a second round for you at a nearby course at a cheaper rate.  We may play a double round on Thursday.

We did some shopping at the Tanger Outlet Mall today and afterwards we went to Rossi's Restaurant for dinner.  The meal was very good.

Tonight we went to the ocean and picked up two jugs of sea water which we are boiling down to make sea salt.  Takes a long time to boil down.  We also got prepared for tomorrows game of golf which will be at Pawley's Plantation.  We have played this course before and we are looking forward to doing it again.

We are doing a little friendly competition.  Ralph has won both Monday and Tuesday so far.  Three more chances for us to win.
