Ferries, Lighthouses and Whales

Today we headed to Brier Island to go on a whale watching cruise.  We were told to call beforehand to make sure all was a go.  At this point they were unsure as the winds were a little high.  We decided to head there and give it a try.  It took us a little over an hour and a half to get there with 2 ferry rides.  We were lucky we were early because we heard one of the ferries broke down causing a lengthy delay.  When we arrived they still did not know if the cruise was a go or not but would know by 12:00. We decided to explore the two lighthouses on the island.  When we were done we headed back to find out if our cruise was on or not.  We were a go.  We paid for our tickets and enjoyed some lunch.  We boarded the Mega Nova around 1:15 and waited for a few late comers and were on the water by around 1:45.  We were told to compare the differences on the waterline as we were leaving at high tide and coming back at low tide.  We were beginning to think we were not going to see any whales as we had been on the boat for about 2 1/2 hours.  Finally in the distance we saw 2 whales breach.  Unfortunately it was so far out that you only saw the splash.  We found some humpback whales and the crew was pretty excited because they haven't seen too many of them lately.  We even saw a whale breach its tail but it happened so quickly we didn't get it on film.  There were 3 whales traveling in this group and as we slowly headed towards home we found another group of about three whales.  It was now time to head home and it took us until almost 7:30 to get back to the car.  A very memorable day.
