California - Day 1

California – April 5, 2018

We managed to complete our packing Wednesday night and enjoy a drink before heading off to bed at 10:30.  I was so paranoid of sleeping in as we had to be up by 3:00 that I was up every half hour on the hour.  Wilf was very generous and picked us up at 4:00 am to take us to the airport.  We owe him big time.  Maybe we can leave a few veggies for them from our fridge.  J

Going through Customs was a little different as most things are all computerized and you have to do it yourself.  Lawrence accidently checked in himself only and then checked me in.  This caused us to get separate seats.  Luckily for the first half, the seat beside me was empty so Lawrence was able to move and join me.  It took us an hour to check in our luggage and clear customs.  We found our gate and then enjoyed some coffee.  We flew from Toronto to Dallas Fort Worth (which was approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.  We had an hour layover and then we flew from Dallas Fort Worth to San Francisco which took another 3 hours and 20 minutes.

We went to Thrifty Car Rental and we got a Toyota Sienna.  There was lots of space in the back and  we were able to fit 2 sets of golf clubs and 4 suitcases in the back.  We were heading to the hotel and we found a Total Wines store so we made a quick pit stop there.  Can you believe it, we bought a 60 pounder of gin for $24.00.  Good start for the ladies.  Oh, and the guys got some beer and Glen Morangie.  Good start for the guys too.

We arrived at the Hampton Inn, in Union City and we got our room and unpacked a little.   Once we were done we texted Laura and Sandra and we called Mom and left her a voicemail.  Now time for some dinner as we haven’t eaten too much all day.  We are heading off to Bay Bar Grill which is just around the corner from our Hotel.  The food was really good.  We ordered a bunch of appetizers which made up our meal.  We had some chicken, shitake mushrooms, asparagus wrapped bacon, mussels in the shell, chicken wings, garlic French fries and some calamari for old times sake.

Now to relax and enjoy the evening.
