Day 2 - Not So Memorous

We managed to sleep in a little and were up at 10:00 am Toronto time (7:00 am California time).  We were pumped and ready to enjoy the day, even though it was raining and they were calling for rain most of the day.  We enjoyed breakfast and decided to go get a Starbucks to take along the way.  The plan was to go to Pier 39 and explore the area around there.  We picked up a coffee to go and made a quick stop to check out the menu of a restaurant 2 doors down.  Lawrence was ahead of us getting to the car and starting yelling at us to come and see what had happened.  We weren't sure what he was talking about and thought maybe some animal was running around the car.  It turned out that someone smashed our window and stole Grace and Ralph's camera case.  It was a quick smash and grab.  We weren't even in the coffee shop for 10 minutes.  Unfortunately both Grace and Ralph's cameras were taken.  Our plans changed drastically after this.  A security guard had come to us and he called the police.  Apparently this is quite a common thing in the area.  Wish we had known.  It looked like they were looking for rental cars only as a car 2 over from us was hit as well.  He was fortunate to have everything in the trunk and they couldn't get to it so they lost nothing.  Just the nuisance of a smashed window.  The police arrived and took our report.  We were only around the corner from our hotel so we headed back and asked the manager of the hotel if he had any garbage bags we could borrow to tape off the window.   The manager said they would look after it for us.  We went back to the room, called the car rental and insurance etc to file the reports.  When we came downstairs we totally amazed by what the employee at the hotel had done for us.  He vacuumed up all the glass in the van and made a window out of a garbage bag and cardboard.  Kept the wind out of the vehicle while driving. We were very impressed.  We will need to write a great review for these guys.  We were able to go to a closer car rental by Oakland Airport and exchange the vehicle for a different one.  We now are driving a Nissan Quest.  Not as nice as the Toyota Sienna but its a vehicle.  Next we drove around to look for a possible new camera for Grace and Ralph and checked out a few golf stores as we needed a cheap golf bag for Grace and myself and some golf balls.  We managed to get one at Walmart for $30.00.  Now we need to find another Walmart so we can get one more.  By the time we got home it was 8:00 pm.  We went straight for supper and enjoyed dinner at Gerry's Grill.  Was OK for dinner but wouldn't mark as a favourite.
Now relaxing and hoping for a better day tomorrow.

This is the other car that got a smashed window

Our vehicle.

The repair job from the Hotel Employee.

They're still smiling (well maybe)
